SQL Server 2005 Install and too many CPU cores

am When you install an "old" SQL Server 2005, I stumbled across a funny detail. I install the SQL Server in the Usually accessible from a base image without service pack and then upgrade the installation by GE downloaded Service Pack. This works perfectly and the installation is in principle "by itself".

When I read the SQL Server 2005, however, wanted to install on a server with 2 Intel 6-core Xeon's broke the installation with a strange error. Unfortunately, I have me the error message no hard copy made, and I'm also the text I already forgot (I'm getting old). Anyway, I was pondering something on what it was. But as I thought made in advance whether a 2005 SQL server with as many cores is clear, I came relatively quickly to the solution:

Before the SQL Server2005 is installed, you should "put down" by the number of cores msconfig for Windows. That means I only have a single core activated, and then ran through the installation perfectly. Then the current ServicePack4 of SQL Server installed, reboot, the cores to msconfig again "released", booted again, and Tata SQL Server detects all nuclei and "everything is good."

Finally (almost) enough CPU cores

other day I was allowed to watch a new Dell server. A 2U high rack "Dell R710 Server. A really fine part, and as always I'm impressed by it, that is, the thing is supermodular, fan-and-out to screw everything without redundant power supply (of course without screwing), 2 CPU sockets, RAM expansion to nearly 100 GB available (and more if larger RAM-bars are available ), 2.5 "hard disks, 4 Nic's latest onboard, Intel Xeon X5600 technology, etc., etc. But I did not want to talk about the Dell server but the CPU cores.

The server has two Intel Xeon X5680 @ 3,33 GHz (each with 6 cores) fitted, or 12 CPU cores and pure with Intel Hyper-Threading Windows displays times in just 24 cores. Not bad, considering that I do (still) only 2 cores working (when is actually my i7-2600. This CPU can pack an the way, for 2-3 weeks at the Dell Vostro 460th . A test of this machine with SSD and a lot of Ram I'll post soon)

This "24 nuclei" I wanted to document just for me, here they are, awesome!

comes on the system an "old" Windows 2003R2 used:

Then runs a SQL Server 2005 can address all the cores:

Windows Mobile Phone HTC HD2 7

Well, before 2 weeks I could a first look at Windows Mobile Phone throw on a HTC HD2. The remarkable thing is that Microsoft has a mobile phone 7 for the HTC HD2 from verschiedenn reasons (hardware requirements, MS-restrictions, etc.) do not actually provide, but what a wonder Windows Mobile 7 is running very, very good HTC on a "old" HD2 . Shall be called a friend of mine has been using the HTC HD2 a whole eternity, and I already have a lot of "Rome's" seen on the item, but none has so far convince me as Windows Mobile Phone 7!

Mobile Phone 7 runs absolutely smoothly on the HD2. The Mobile Phone 7 surface has my opinion are clearly futuristic than my iphone4. have on the iPhone I's icon in standard sizes, lined up obediently on various screens to Druchscrollen - some time ago, yet the non-plus-ultra is now something I doubt at this operating concept, and hope for the new iPhone5 something "new" what me again excites the amazement.

So my first conclusion: A really successful throw from Microsoft. The new Mobile Phone 7 - ok some say that the Zune is 1:1 but hey, the interface looks cool, everything is running smoothly, Facebook and do it right mood, Excel, Word and Co. go, sync with the cloud, etc. .

Well done Microsoft, I'm looking forward to a healthy competition with Apple and Android, and of course I want to say that I (still) my wish iphone4 exchange against any other handset in the world (at least for now)

iPad Jukebox

Well last weekend was the annual graduation ceremony from our gym, and my iPad could "make" Music.

What do you need:

first an iPad (500 €) 2nd
an iPad Dock (30 €)
third two 3.5 Y-cable (1 x 2 x jack to jack about € 7 each) chainplate "around a 3.5 jack output from the dock to ipad 3 x 3,5 jack output
4th a Creative MegaWorks 550 THX Multimedia Speaker System (about 400 €, many years ago)
5th to find some time to right music, as may one or the other no house music (priceless)
6th iTunes, ne playlist
7th the "Clock Ever Free" App http://itunes.apple.com/de/app/weckruf-uhr-everclock-free/id391232258?mt=8) as "screen saver" so that what is on the screen "moves"

(Thanks to Jörg for the cell phone image).

Overall, very cool. A few years ago I still had a complete PC, monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc. to take to achieve the same effect.

Thank iPad, Thanks Apple, Thanks Steve!

iPhone bye web.de

use for many years, I have a private email address is an address web.de. When I look at me in my e-mails collected web.de web.de free mail mailbox, the oldest dating from April 2000, ie almost 11 years since I use this email address, perhaps even longer. This is a very very long Time in this area!

web.de freemail I did quite well earlier, it was fast enough, of course, the web interface, and it is still "for free". BUT there are some restrictions that are no longer timely. In the free version (without web.de club membership), I unfortunately get only 12 MB total mailbox size and is at 500 emails (total in all folders, even Outbox, Trash, etc.) end. Of course, you can delete emails or archive somewhere else, but we talk sometimes about 12 MB in 2011, what is that?

course would I talk web.de mail is not bad, my brother has a web.de club membership (I think 5 euros per month) offers several advantages. First, it has "unlimited space", ie it has for many years does not delete any single email over (can be handy), on the other emails it would not take 2 lines advertising (at end of email), and he used to his own email sender's domain in the form vorname@nachname.de - practical example is when one or the other job application sent (as far as I remember that use a different e-mail sender's domain can also mail in the free version )

But I want to personally not in the web.de club, and with the 500 emails I meet regularly to the limit, if I do not necessarily want to immediately delete any email again. So I have decided to allow me to pick up lying on my web.de emails from my googlemail.com account via POP3. Finally, I felt 7537 MB disk space for Gmail :-) Now I'm back empty seat at web.de

probably let me run my web.de e-mail address for many years on, but I'll just from time to google mail web.de my mailbox empty spaces can be, so I'm in no bottleneck. like sad, actually my web.de surface remains.

My suggestion to web.de would be screwed but your free e-mail restrictions slightly higher, ie how about 100 MB of disk space and 5000 emails, then I could start free reception of one or the other e-mail, which contains an appendix with a picture of a 7Megapixel camera.

course I know now that Google reads my email but ok for me.

Build A Simple Bench Eagle Project

After my new iphone4 now running (except the alarm clock bug that has caught me New Year's), it is now time for the old 3G reset to default. This goes beyond iPhone itself or through iTunes.

the iPhone under Settings:

General:
select Reset:

then select "Erase All Content and Settings":

takes Depending on the firmware this process only a few minutes (iOS 4.2.1) or have got very long (I have a 3G back in Aug.2010 iOS 3.2.1 under the same function, and then has ever lasted half an hour).
over iTunes the whole thing is of course possible. Easy Button "Restore" select:
This is my 3G completely reset, or shows like it out "from work" is. Now I have to perform only a jailbreak, so I can talk with my knowledge gained through Telekom 3G with other sim card and surf the web.
